While "Chasing Lennon" deals with the more general theme of an unfaithful partner, it also serves as an homage to Alex's teenage dog Lennon, a mischievous whippet who would make a habit of escaping under the backyard fence and would have to be chased down the street - an event that would not only inspire the song, but also become the name of the band.
lyrics
I think it's time we say goodbye
Before we wreck each other's lives
You used to keep me up all night
And God I know you loved to bite
After everything you put me through
After every game you played
I should never have got rid of you
Just like that time you ran away
Now I'm left chasing Lennon
You sleep with anyone you find
It's someone different every time
And every time you cross that line
You're leaving all your shit behind
